Leland Lazarus is the founder of The Dream Scholarship, which helps 5 undergraduate English students at the University of Panama (UP) reach their dream of getting a well-rounded English education and contributing to US-Panamanian cross-cultural understanding.

Biography

Leland Lazarus is Founding Director of the Dream Scholarship (DS). An American of Panamanian descent, he spent 2013 in Panama teaching English as a Fulbright scholar. A native of Long Island, NY, Leland holds a B.A. in International Relations at Brown University. He also worked for China Central Television, where he was an Associate Producer for an international news talk show. He now lives in Boston, studying at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He is also a recipient of the Thomas R. Pickering Fellowship, where he will become a U.S. diplomat upon graduation in 2016. Fluent in Both Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, Leland also likes to sing, write, exercise and practice Taekwondo

The Dream Scholarship helps 5 undergraduate English students at the University of Panama (UP) reach their dream of getting a well-rounded English education and contributing to US-Panamanian cross-cultural understanding. It was created through a partnership between the United States embassy of Panama, the Fulbright Alumni Association in Panama, and the University of Panama. Named after Dr. Martin Luther King’s momentous speech, the program also encourages the students to use the knowledge they gain to serve their communities in Panama.
