The theme reflects the spirit of Fulbrighters, spreading mutual understanding between the people of the US and the rest of the world, sharing ideas worth spreading and the fierce fight Fulbrighters take on to protect their beloved Program.
TEDx, similarly, has shown immense promise in furthering ideas for the benefit of all societies in a way that is both personable (revolutionary story-telling) and powerful (demonstrating incredible feats of intellect, creativity, and collaboration). It is our continuing wish to provide Fulbright alumni with a TEDx framework to most effectively excite and gather others to join efforts in working for the sake of humanity’s progress. TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world’s leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com.
TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.
TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily; the new TED Conversations, enabling broad conversations among TED fans; and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.) TEDx Program
The Fulbright Association continues the Fulbright Program international exchange experience by promoting opportunities for life-long learning, collaborative networking, and service at home and abroad for alumni, supporters and friends of the Fulbright program. Fulbright Association members form the active constituency helping to promote and preserve Fulbright exchanges to ensure that they continue to benefit future generations.
Established on February 27, 1977, the Fulbright Association is a private, nonprofit and nonpolitical organization whose members are Fulbright Program alumni and friends of international education. The Association supports and promotes international educational and cultural exchange, and the ideal most associated with the Fulbright name — mutual understanding among the peoples of the world. The Fulbright Association currently has approximately 6,000 individual members, about two-thirds of whom are life members. Approximately 150 institutional members, including colleges, universities, and international educational organizations throughout the country, also support the Fulbright Association. Our 60+ local affiliate chapters host more than 200 programs for visiting Fulbrighters and alumni throughout the country each year. Programs range from education events, panel sessions, career development seminars, and music and art presentations to global health and science conferences, local networking, volunteer activities, community engagement, and a numerous other interesting events and initiatives.
The Greater Los Angeles Chapter is one of 60 chapters of the Fulbright Association. The association is a global network of scholars, professionals, business people and students with a common denominator: a keen appreciation for internationalism and for the Fulbright experience, which is best defined as diplomacy through educational and cultural exchange. The chapter plans and conducts over 20 events and activities over the year for its members, sponsors and friends. Chapter activities aim to be the perfect grounds for cross-national and cross-cultural information dissemination mission, such as fostering a deeper understanding of Southern California’s diverse heritage through research, historic preservation, exhibitions and educational programs.

William Fulbright in 1946, the Fulbright program is the largest academic exchange program in the world today and is hailed as one of the most successful bilateral programs in US history.
The competitive, merit-based program was established to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skills. The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsors the Fulbright Program from an annual appropriation from the U.S. Congress. Additional direct and in-kind support comes from partner governments, foundations, corporations, and host institutions both in and outside the U.S. Since it began, the program has operated on a bi-national basis; each country active in the Fulbright Program has entered into an agreement with the U.S. government.
More than 300,000 international Fulbright alumni are working across every professional field throughout the world. Among them are 48 Nobel Prize recipients, 18 heads or former heads of state, ambassadors, CEOs, teachers, scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, artists, musicians, playwrights, poets, doctors, politicians, university administrators, and much more. “Educational exchange can turn nations into people, contributing as no other form of communication can to the humanizing of international relations.”
